Mini DVD to Analog via Victoria's Secret - Felix - 04-07-2009

Stopping in the Apple Store last evening on the way to Victoria's Secret with my wife (she wanted to check out the new Heidi Klum bra), I was overcome with a fit of Apple Lust, and bought a new $599 Mac Mini.

I had been using my old MacBook to stream video, and had it hooked up to my 20 year old Sony TV via a Micro DVD to analog adaptor, which worked well, but I was able to convince my wife that we needed a dedicated Mac for that purpose.

The new Mac Mini comes with a Mini DVD adaptor, but I believe that only hooks up to new digital TVs, which we don't have, and are not planning on getting. My wife rolled over for the Mac Mini, and I don't want to push my luck on a new flat screen TV. Besides, the old Sony still has a great picture.

Is there any adaptor available for the new Mac Minis that can output to an analog TV?

Thanks for any advice.

Thank you. Since I rarely post, I wanted to get your attention.

She did end up getting two of the bras. She said she likes the way the bra makes the girls perk up.

But seriously, any way to get the signal to analog?

Wasn't it noted last year that many Apple stores are situated next to or very near Victoria's Secret stores?

EDIT -- supposedly doesn't work with the new Mini.... !

EDIT 2--- looks like it is not as easy as I thought:

Somebody that has done it might chime in.

Not to be Johnny Raincloud, but...

Why are you watching a 20-year-old Sony TV? That you don't plan to replace?

This isn't a constructive suggestion for your current dilemma, which I agree should be addressed with thoughtful recommendations, I understand. I hope you find an acceptable solution.

But in the world of new bras, and new Apple computers...there's gotta be a modern TV somewhere in your future. There's a story behind this, just curious why the antiquity mixed with modernity in your home entertainment high-tech streaming ambitions.

Note: At University Village in Seattle, the Victoria's Secret and the Apple Store are side-by-side, perhaps your mall is designed similar to ours. Or, you are shopping at the very same mall. Victoria's Secret is a delight. I was in there during the holidays with my wife, felt light-headed, and called a buddy on my cell phone, told him "I'm in the candy store". He laughed, and added "No, you're in the candy wrapper store..."

What Kramerica said, but I have not heard of anybody verifying that it actually works this way yet.

Yeah, might have been me who started the thread. The one in the University Village/University District In Seattle is 1 door down from Victoria's Secret. I think the one in Bellevue, Washington is as well.

I seem to recall a device that used to ship with iBooks, that had a DV adapter on one end, and the other had a unit that could either directly or indirectly (via one more cable, or adapter) connect to S-Video. I think one port was for sound, the other for Video. I think with one more adapter, it connected to S-Video. A tortured, gnarly-looking connection, but I think it worked.

I feel sorry for that antique Sony TV, I'm sure it cost a lot, but you made the poor bastard work ten years longer than expected, and plan to keep driving it until a peaceful retirement is impossible. Some people buy and pay off a whole house in that amount of time. Did you pay for your house in cash, but get a 30-year mortgage on your TV?
