On the topic of envelopes - your tips on printing them, mail merge, etc? - AAA - 04-08-2009 My great, trusty Canon ip3000 has two paper supplies and duplexing. I love it. I like printing envelopes on it. But, I wondered, as I toiled away with Word, what the best method of doing so is? First, I had envelopes that were 4x5.275 inches. I have not clue what the printing dialog envelope size selections represent. So, I just put the size in manually. My Address Book is synchronized with Entourage, which in-turn provides Word it's ability to select an address and populate the document (envelope) automatically. I had to re-verify my addresses were up-to-date. That took some manual effort. Then, the update to Address Book to sync with Entourage provided a non-instant update. Printing the envelopes made me re-think my Address book entries. I've always struggled with how to enter and represent couples. That is, married couples. I have all their info, but how to enter it? If you put them both into one record, it's hard to distinguish between one's phone/email/etc, and the other's. Especially when syncing with Entourage, Yahoo Contacts, and Palm devices. If you put them in separately, it's inconvenient in some ways, especially those whose last names are not the same. Now, when addressing these envelopes I preferred the more proper Mr. and Mrs. suchandsuch. I know of no way to extract the Address Book entries and put it into this format except manually. And how does one create a set of entries, that will be used for mail-merge functionality, to automatically print envelopes and/or letters WITH envelopes? Since the ip3000 has two paper supplies, Word at least has the ability to print a letter, then print the corresponding envelope. And, do this for a list of names. But, doing so is akin to voodoo and aligning the stars when one does this as infrequently as do I. So, I wonder if any of you have any seriously cool ways of doing any number of the above tasks? I do like to stretch my tech legs at times for things like this. Oh, and I did hand-write the messages in the Thank Yous. So, no I am not averse to writing the old school way. ![]() Re: On the topic of envelopes - your tips on printing them, mail merge, etc? - wurm - 04-08-2009 On the rare occasion I need to print onto envelopes, I use Snail Mail. The site shows Jaguar and Panther compatibility, but I run it in Tiger no problem. No clue about Leopard. The only way I print envelopes. |
