My work Service Award was overlooked. - AAA - 04-08-2009

I was hoping that my major anniversary/service recognition award would have been given to me today in our large department meeting. But as is typical with my life, it just was not to be. Sad

I did not want to speak up in a couple hundred room.

How many years? I received a nice certificate for 10 years. I had to help the receptionist to print it though, so it wasn't exactly a surprise.

I am at 23 years and have not received any recognition yet....

I did get an invite to put in for early retirement. Yes, I have gray hair from teaching middle school...but I am only 47. Early retirement is way off for me.

I am at ten and will be getting an engraved bowl in May. Rumor has it there is a small check involved as well, but I remain skeptical that one will appear in these belt-tightening times.

Nice Work.

I got gold tie tacs with rubies in the center.
They supposedly got bigger (the gemstone, not the tie-tac) but I couldn't tell the difference.

Something you put in a sock drawer and your kids throw away when you die.

Congraulations !
:bunny: :bunny: :bunny:
To you, for putting up with The Man for 15 years. To your coworkers, for putting up with YOU for 15 years ! :fawkdance:

At my company the process is managed very carefully by HR. Service pins are given at 10, 15, 20, and every 5 years afterwards. At 15 years you can receive your pin at the employee's association banquet. At 25 years you get a gift clock (grandfather, nice gold watch, etc.) AND you get to go to the 'quarter century club' banquet, which involves an open bar. You also get your name on a brass plate in the front of the building. When you leave you get the plaque. At 50 years your name goes on a silver plate which is permanent on the wall.

One guy here has 60 years with the company. He's 91, and comes in every day. He's what we call a 'living legend', and teaches seminars to people all over the world. He stopped travelling a few years ago, so they have to come to him now.

I've worked for places that did nothing to honor service anniversaries, and I've worked for places that did. Trust me, I'd much rather work someplace where they did nothing than at the ones where it was poorly managed and some people got the recognition and others were overlooked. Get it right so everyone is treated equally or don't bother. I feel for ya, AAA.

Wait until you get a few miles under the belt.
