my son bought a new Wii skateboard game. he groans "Not again!" when i start singing along with the song playing behind his screen action. i ask him what's wrong and he complains that this game is modern, how could i possibly know that song.
i tell him sorry, sonny boy, that's an almost 40 year old track called Thank You Fo Lettin' Me Be Mice Elf from Sly and the Family Stone. Everything old is new again.

Reminds me of a thread I've been wanting to start:
Songs that didn't need to be remade.
Somebody's lethargic version of "They Paved Paradise" plays on the radio once or twice a day . . .
Coworker watching a recap of American Idol on the 'net, comments that the song is great but she doesn't know how to turn the volume up . . . I lean over to listen; "Mad World" by Tears for Fears in the style of whever it was that recorded a slow/quiet/depressing version of it a few years ago.

are you referring to the song titled Big Yellow Taxi which has the line "They paved paradise, put up a parking lot?" (joni mitchell tune)
