IMAC G4 Upgrade Issues - knutech - 04-08-2009 Hi, I'm a newbie to Mac's, so please excuse me, though I have had PC's for over 25years! I was given a IMAC, G4 and I have upgraded it with DVD DL burner, bigger HD and more memory. Installed leaopard and hey it works.. In a fashion. It won't boot from the HD, but it does from the DVD with the operating disk. Once it boots I can get in to disk util's select the HD partition and it boots and the machine functions perfectly. (Still getting to grips with leopard with a single button mouse! Ordered the new type with scroll button) Having read lots of infomation I believe I need to get in to the OF and change the setting for my new HD (500Gig) but I may be wrong? Need help on this, all help greatfully accepted. Regards, Knutech Re: IMAC G4 Upgrade Issues - C(-)ris - 04-08-2009 You should just be able to go to the startup disk preference and set the 500GB drive from there and it should remember. Re: IMAC G4 Upgrade Issues - jdc - 04-08-2009 you can use any $10 USB mouse you can buy -- or already have in a drawer -- you dont need a mac specific mouse Re: IMAC G4 Upgrade Issues - ztirffritz - 04-08-2009 Any mouse will work just fine. That 1-button mouse issue was an urban legend that PC users spread for more than 10 years. Re: IMAC G4 Upgrade Issues - Octave Doctor - 04-09-2009 There's a regular old Microsoft Basic Mouse hooked up to my G4 (but only because I got it for free). However, third-parties have discovered that all iMac G4 models will support big drives running MacOS X 10.2 or later." Maybe this helps? Re: IMAC G4 Upgrade Issues - RAMd®d - 04-09-2009 There's no setting you can change in OF or anywhere else for the HD. The jumper on the HD itself may be an issue. I don't know if your iMac uses Master or Cable Select, but glance at the old HD should tell you. Re: IMAC G4 Upgrade Issues - nwyaker - 04-09-2009 HD is master, DVD is slave in that machine. Just upgraded several. |
