I don't close my BMB often enough, I think . . . I wonder if they'd repair the case with a nice aluminum one :-)

Geeeze, I wonder if I have to consider the possibility of it happening to my second to last Rev BMB, or is this something that Apple secretly fixed a Gen or two ago.

Not a surprise. Now- what's the time duration on this 'silent recall' ? 5 years ? 3 ? My wife's MB (Gen I) has the screen bezel cracking out now. The palmrest was already replaced twice (once under warranty, once outside of warranty, both times no cost, no questions asked).

Is the palmrest replacement something they can do at an Apple Store? Or does it need to be sent off?

When I had a key go bad they replaced the whole top case including palmrest and keyboard right in the store. Took probably 1/2 hour total.

An Apple genius can do it while you wait - at least that's how they handled mine

This is nothing new. Apple has been fixing this problem all along, in or out of warranty. My wife's MacBook had the bottom case replaced once, now it's broken again... I wonder if they will actually make a new part that won't break again.

This is nothing new.
Well, in fact it is.
Did you read the article? Apple officially extended the scope of the repairs beyond the bottom case.
And not everybody was lucky enough to get the bottom portion replaced. Much depended on who one talked to.
Now it will be far less difficult to get a 'Book repaired.
