Recommendations on a good chairmat - PeterB - 04-10-2009 I've asked about this here before... I seem to be having crappy luck with these. They always seem to last about a year or two, then start breaking. I could go through the hassle of returning under warranty, but it doesn't seem worth it. Last time I asked here, I was told that Costco has good ones... looking there, I see a good number of different types though, and not sure what to get. I need approx. 36" x 48", with a 18" wide lip, for low-pile carpet. TiA Re: Recommendations on a good chairmat - C(-)ris - 04-10-2009 Hardwood floors. Re: Recommendations on a good chairmat - OWC Jamie - 04-10-2009 so what chair mat to protect hard wood floors ? Re: Recommendations on a good chairmat - OWC Jamie - 04-10-2009 mine are all from Staples haven't had one crack, yet. the oldest one is 25 years old, it hasn't been 'clear' for a while. The last one was rolled up in a box. All my chairs have plastic wheels. Try no nubs ? Re: Recommendations on a good chairmat - PeterB - 04-10-2009 billb, yeah, that may be the problem -- though without the nubs, the thing is likely to slide around... Re: Recommendations on a good chairmat - GGD - 04-10-2009 I've been in a similar situation with them lasting 1-2 years. The lifetime warranty is meaningless, there are handling fees that are almost as much as the replacement cost, and several weeks of processing and no guarantee that you'll get the same size/model. It's also a pain to dispose of the old ones, the city recycling center said that it's not a recyclable plastic and I would need to pay to take it to the dump. So I decided to buy from Costco just because of their return policy. First one I got also lasted a little over a year, so I ordered a replacement but went to the next thickness/cost up from what I had, put the old one in the shipping cardboard that the new one arrived in, took it down to Costco and they gave me a cash refund for it, and they get to deal with the disposal problem. Hopefully this new one will last a little longer before I need to repeat the process. FWIW: The recent one I got was a Rubbermaid Diamond for about $50 46x60 no lip. I've only had it 4 months so no idea how long this one will last. Re: Recommendations on a good chairmat - OWC Jamie - 04-10-2009 The carpet here is really thin, like vinyl tile. :-) The one with no nubs doesn't slide around. The last one took about a week to lay down flat. It may be they just don't make 'em like they used to. My last one purchased about 6 months ago. The other two have nubs and are ancient. No names on these things. Re: Recommendations on a good chairmat - wurm - 04-10-2009 This is easier than re-typing everything. http://forums.macresource.com/read.php?1,133139,133139#msg-133139 An update (almost three years later). Still works like a charm, although admittedly it's quite a bit scratched up. But I don't care about that. Another option Peter, might be those big mother casters for your chairs. P.S. I was able to take advantage of Rubbermaid's warranty on my old one and I didn't have to send it back. As I recall, I did have to fax them a copy of my receipt, which I happened to have saved. No hassle, though. Re: Recommendations on a good chairmat - jdc - 04-10-2009 and wurms other post had my option -- costco's mats are $14 -- so if i have to replace it every few years, big deal... Re: Recommendations on a good chairmat - PeterB - 04-10-2009 wurm, yeah, I'd seen that thread, but am not sure where to get the plastic... would HD/Lowes have something like that? |
