Star Trek (May 10)-- big box office? - Black - 04-11-2009

I've been hearing about the new movie from unexpected channels.
The past films haven't been of much interest beyond the diehards.
Is this one going to do box office on a scale similar to some of the bigger films e.g. Batman movies, Harry Potters and such?

I hear more about this movie on this forum than anywhere else. Definitely going!

My prediction: It will be the year's top movie. Mainstream reviews will be good, as will word of mouth.

My 13-year-old, who has never been a Trek fan, has already told me he wants to see it.

No. It will not make even $1.00. No one will watch it. Ever.

It is going to be good but there is no way it is going to be the top grossing film of 2009.

I was surprised that my friend's 10 year old was excited about it coming out. Must be some very targeted marketing going on.
There was never much mainstream buzz about past films.

No question it will be big box office.

But that's not saying much -- top in the box office right now is Hannah Montana, which has gotten horrible reviews-- and proves that the proles will eat anything you feed them.
