What was the point of Life After People - Grumpyguy - 04-22-2009

Usually I like the History Channel Stuff, but the Life After People series seems like it was dreamed up by someone that hates people.

Kinda pointless as if there is no people, who would care?

Too macabre and sad for my tastes...

Not people, just you.

Newt, if definitely gave me the vibe that the earth would be a better place if only....

Yeah it was stupid. It has been on before.
Oh, and they do hate people. Those are the same clowns that told me as a kid 40 years ago that we would run out of oil and the world population would plummet due to starvation and the earth would be an ice cube by 10 years ago. They scared me as a child and I consider them child abusers.

Grumpy, I didn't get that feeling from watching the show. And I always thought it was a neat subject, not necessarily sad. And I'm not the kind of person that's into the macabre either. I guess it's the thought provoking nature of it that appeals to me.

Though some would suggest human extinction is an inevitability, I wouldn't. But at the same time, I wouldn't bank on our survival either. No species has ever done that. Of course, we have our intelligence...and who knows...but it's not a sure thing. Chances are we'll eventually go extinct or evolve.

I think the point is that Mankind marvels in it's own superior sense of accomplishment and that if we wiped ourselves out, it would not take long for nature to overcome it all.

Grumpy and Lee, why read so much political paranoia into it (especially you, Lee! Jeebus....)? It's about what happens when human-made structures are abandoned and left without maintenance. It feeds into the same fascination as post-apocalyptic movies like 12 Monkeys.

I thought it was pretty fascinating the first time I saw it. For example, animals living their entire lives in skyscrapers overgrown with vegetation, never once touching the ground. Wow.

The History Channel started out well intended, now it's just another notch in some corporate belt. It has less to do with history than Fox does with news.
