How to play AVI files via Frontrow - martinbc - 03-22-2006 Hi There I just got a new Dual Core Mac mini. I have a bunch of Divx movie files that I want to play via Frontrow. The files opens up in Quicktime and then nothing happens. I normally use VLC that plays everything thrown at it, but not QT 7.04 even with Divx 6 drivers. Is there a way to fool Frontrow to open up VLC ? Or have QT to play Divx ? Please Help Martin Re: How to play AVI files via Frontrow - Baby Tats - 03-22-2006 You can convert them, but I suspect you already knew that. Are these the divx plugins you are using? http://www.divx.com/divx/mac/ Have you tried installing QT repairing permissions and then immediately installing divx and then repairing permissions? Re: How to play AVI files via Frontrow - chas_m - 03-23-2006 I really don't think you understand Front Row. Front Row uses QuickTime to play files. If the file won't play it QuickTime ... then ... it won't play in Front Row. DUH DA-DA! Front Row is not a player. It is an alternative GUI for the other players (iTunes, iPhoto, QuickTime Player, etc). My suggestion to you would be to try installing the Flip4Mac, sorry MICROSOFT Components for QuickTime and see if that solves the problem. If not, maybe you should reconsider your need to watch porno. Re: How to play AVI files via Frontrow - martinbc - 03-23-2006 Dear Chas_m I understand Frontrow very well ....... I was wondering if it was possible to tweak Frontrow to use VLC instead of QT. Flip4mac is for wmv files. Or does it work the Divx files too ? In Denmark we have a saying .... "Thief thinks everybody steals" ......... got it ? Martin Re: How to play AVI files via Frontrow - MEG - 03-23-2006 I've had success playing most Divx files throught QT/FrontRow using the Divx plugin -- but you have to use the beta plug-in for Intel Macs (the other won't work if you are using QT as a universal binary app) Get the plug-in here: http://labs.divx.com/ Looks like there's a new version as of March 16, I've got the older one. With the beta Divx 6 software, FrontRow recognizes most movies and the few it doesn't can be viewed/converted in VLC or easily converted to a more QT friendly format (DivXWMAConverter usually does the trick) for use in FrontRow. Re: How to play AVI files via Frontrow - martinbc - 03-23-2006 Cool, thanks for the advice. On "The Other Forum" somebody told me about this new piece of software : Media Central that will do the trick. Re: How to play AVI files via Frontrow - MEG - 03-23-2006 I haven't tried Media Central yet -- sticking with the factory experience for the time being. If you try Media Central, be sure to post your experiences. |
