Is there a PC equivalent of Migration Assistant?
My daughter may need to replace her PC. (No choice on platforms.) I recently upgraded to a new PowerBook and it was oh so simple.
Any pointers would be appreciated.
(For all I know PC manufacturers include such software, but I would doubt it.)

Yes, and it's built into Windows XP. No more need for alohabob.

I still think Aloha Bob works better, every time I've used the XP tool it's fscked up.

Yeah, I upgraded a friend's HP to Windows XP a couple of weeks ago. Used the Files & Settings Transfer Wizard and that's the last I saw of that data. The archive created is permanently corrupted. Since it was my first time using the FSTW, I discovered later that there are many, many tales of woe out their with people having the same problem as me.
Good thing I backed up their Documents folder seperately so all that was lost was Bookmarks and their sent e-mail and addresses. Luckily they had their e-mail set up to leave copies on the server so that all came flooding back.

It would appear that the IBM product from Stephanie's earlier post is the run-away best. Or does someone here have a bad experience with it?

Looking at the users guide of the IBM software, which can be downloaded as a pdf document from the IBM site, it doesn't mention IBM products by name but says, rather, generically PC to PC. It does have some obtuse HD space requirements. Thus:
Hardware requirements
The source and target computers must meet the following conditions:
v A supported Microsoft Windows ® operating system must be installed.
v The hard disk must have 30 MB of space free for the SMA installation files.
v The source system must have enough free space on the hard disk for the temporary files that are created during the capture phase. The disk space required depends on the size of the SMA migration file created.
v The target computer must be able to access the SMA migration file. You can use a local area network (LAN), a removable medium (such as a zip disk), or an Ethernet crossover cable.
v For the PC to PC migration, the target computer must have free space on the disk amounting to twice the size of the migration file.
v For the file transfer migration, the source computer must have free space on the disk amounting to three times the size of the migration file.
