Linux On a Compact Flash? - microchip13 - 03-24-2006

Long story, have a microcomputer, it's about 7 inches, by 4 inches, I don't have it right in front of me.

It has a slot for a 2.5HD, but I don't have a 2.5HD.

I'm thinking tomorrow trying to get it to boot off it's internal CF slot.

I've got a 16MB and a 256MB CF card, I'm thinking DSL, but am curious as to how I'd copy the ISO to the CF card?

Thanks In Advance

You'd have to have a bios that is bootable from that device. I've never seen a system that is able to boot from a CF card. I've heard that some PCs are now starting to allow booting from USB ports, so you may want to investigate that option first. You could easily fit a lightweight distro of Linux onto a 512 USB flash card...heck, you could fit a live CD on a 1GB usb flash drive, but the BIOS would have to allow booting from it.

Does a compact flash require a really tiny trenchcoat?

I don't get that joke...

I ended up putting hal91 on my 16Meg CF drive, and DSL on my USB drive.
