8 Core Hackintosh?? - prof - 05-29-2009 Anyone here successfully build an 8 Core Hackintosh?? I'm interested in giving it a shot and looking for advice. TIA, prof Re: 8 Core Hackintosh?? - volcs0 - 05-29-2009 This is the state of the art. http://forums.anandtech.com/messageview.aspx?catid=81&threadid=2242545 Yes, I've read that whole thread... If you google "8-core" and hackintosh, there is information. Re: 8 Core Hackintosh?? - decay - 05-29-2009 not sure. try these links: http://leopardsoup.pbworks.com/ http://forums.anandtech.com/categories.aspx?catid=81 Re: 8 Core Hackintosh?? - prof - 05-29-2009 thanks for the links guys, very informative. Does anyone happen to know if you can boot from and external HD with Hackintosh, or is that just a pipedream?? The Mini 9 will boot a {correctly prepped} USB2 Flash Drive or Hard Drive that's had OS X correctly installed with EFI. BTDT I'm now preparing to build a C2Quad OSx86 with a Firewire 400 card, hopefully it will boot from a FW external :bat: Re: 8 Core Hackintosh?? - Will Collier - 05-30-2009 I dunno about Firewire booting. That might depend on the motherboard bios. USB would probably be a sure thing these days, though. Re: 8 Core Hackintosh?? - Jimmypoo - 05-30-2009 Current i920 (D0 series) and the right board will get you from rated 2.67GHz to 4.2GHz with no additional cooling and nominal temps. I got the info (I watched it step by step) - unfortunately, at the last minute, stability with F@H was SO GOOD, and the latest incarnation of Fista was viewed superior for Media Center, that in the process of creating it - "we" lost a 20 year Mac enthusiast. I strongly opted for the above processor @ ~~~$250 vs dual i965s at $1800/pair. Solution (as designed) came in $5k less. Great decision making by machine owner along the way, and overclocked the board, cpu and RAM to 2100MHz with NO problems. I want to do it without considering even having a safety boot to WinANYTHING. Perhaps one day soon. 4.2GHz without additional cooling beyond stock - nominal temps - on a 2.67GHz CPU? And surviving a week++ of Folding @ Home on all cores?? That's impressive. |
