iPhone modem - ztirffritz - 05-30-2009 Is anyone using their iPhone as a modem tethered to their Mac? I'd like to try this with my wife's macbook. My iphone is jailbroken. I haven't really searched online yet. Just wondering if it works and how well. Re: iPhone modem - space-time - 05-30-2009 I don't have an iPhone, so I don't know how well it works, but I read that it can be done, and even Apple said this will be soon available (may in OS 3?) Re: iPhone modem - testcase - 05-30-2009 I believe an App was on the itms quite q while back but, it was pulled after a very short time. I've spoke with people at an ATT retail store. The rep showed me three smart phones (other than the iPhone) that were capable of acting as a modem for a laptop. That leads me to believe that Apple is, for some unknown reason, blocking this. I seem to remember that the next software release will address iPhone as modem. I really don't see what the problem is. If WiFi isn't available, why can't I use phone minutes to be able to connect at 3G cellphone speeds to check something? Although most of it could be done over the iPhone, I bought a 17" MBP and really would rather be viewing on that gorgeous screen. It may actually be AT&T that blocks tethering on the iPhone, even though they allow it on other phones. Take SlingPlayer for example, it's been out for other phones and available to use over 3G for a long time, but the iPhone version will only work over WiFi. I think the proliferation of iPhones is causing AT&T to enact different policies so their network doesn't get bogged down. |
