Calling Ubuntu 9.04 users - kap - 05-30-2009

I understand this is mainly a Mac forum, somewhat of a PC one, and perhaps, a tiny % of in-the-closet Ubuntu users ... the shame can be so great Wink I am hoping to find the answers which I haven't yet found in the Ubuntu community forum. Please PM me if you can spare your knowledge, skills, time and patience. TiA

I've got to run, but feel free to PM me with questions. Sorry for not PMing, but it would have required an extra click.

Why not just ask your questions out in the open?
Are you ashamed? Embarrassed?

Nah, I just want to avoid the "This is a Mac forum!!!" Well, Mac OSX is Linux flavored Mac style.

In any event, here is the scoop: My IBM Thinkpad R61 is capable of connecting to my school wifi. It does fine at my house also but I can't pull up any websites; the wired connection is fine. Not sure what the problem is.

Lenovo ThinkPad R61
2.40 GHz Core 2 Duo
2 Gig RAM
80 Gig HD
OS Ubuntu 9.04

This is a Mac forum!!!

Sorry. Couldn't resist.

The security is probably not set up the same on your router as on your pc.

Your school probably does not encrypt whereas your home router is probably using WEP or WPA/WPA2.

I put ubuntu 9.04 Netbook Remix onto a USB drive to test with my Dell Mini 9. Impressively, it also worked nicely with an original core duo MacBook Pro. The surprise for me when booting it on the MacBook Pro (I had to install rEFIt to be able to select the USB drive) was that it could read the files on the Mac-formatted internal disk!

I know none of this is helpful to the current situation it sounds like other than that I can confirm that I was able to join wireless networks easily with both machines.

I am checking on the WEP settings. Will update. Thanks everyone.
