Easy way to normalize several AIFF files? - Will Collier - 05-30-2009
Audio types, is there a relatively-painless way to normalize the volume of a group of AIFF files?
I've extracted the audio from Sting and Branford Marsalis's performance on the official Live Aid DVDs, and also extracted the portions of the performance that were left out (criminal, man, they cut Driven To Tears and Message In A Bottle--WTH?) from "unofficial" DVDs. Of course, the official, tweaked-up songs are much hotter (i.e. louder) than the unofficial, recorded off the air in 1985 songs. They're not ever going to be identical, but it'd be nice if I could at least get all the tracks to a similar volume level.
I've tried the MacPorts normalize app, and the output is garbage. Audacity doesn't help much, either. Any suggestions?

You could take them into Final Cut Pro/Express and equalize the volume levels manually so you found them pleasing and then export them as new copies so you retain your originials.

GarageBand might do the trick, of course Soundtrack Pro or Logic Pro would be good too.

Thanks, I think that's the ticket. -6db on the "official" tracks, +3db on the unofficial versions sounds nice.
I hate the Loudness War.

Try Amadeus Pro. I think there's a free trial.
