Anyone else having weed spray pump troubles? - samintx - 05-31-2009 I have (just bought) two huge cans of weed spray and neither pump will work. I installed as stated, pumped and pumped...nada. One is Roundup with a blue top and the other WeedStop in a grey plastic jug. The Roundup has a fancy dan spray handle (just dribbles) but the smaller spray hose on a Roundup white jug works fine. The design of the spray unit is different on this diff size Roundup. I guess I'll fill up the one that works from the ones that don't work...but it is maddening when a simple sprayer doesn't work on two new cans. (plastic...not really cans) In a mad moment thinking I'd improve the dirt around my sidewalks I planted Asian Jasmine...well...it has taken over and too hard to get leaves out of the side yards with the jasmine growing...so I'm killing it all and going back to dirt. Too invasive and too much upkeep, too. Re: Anyone else having weed spray pump troubles? - Seacrest - 05-31-2009 You know, come to think of it, as a matter of fact... no. Re: Anyone else having weed spray pump troubles? - DaviDC. - 05-31-2009 I've come to the conclusion that making a semi-reliable spray pump mechanism is a lost art. Re: Anyone else having weed spray pump troubles? - JoeH - 05-31-2009 Did you turn the nozzle to the ON position? Re: Anyone else having weed spray pump troubles? - Lee3 - 05-31-2009 I think using a 2 gallon pump sprayer and just mixing concentrate is cheaper and works better. After rinsing it, you can use it for other things too. Re: Anyone else having weed spray pump troubles? - AlphaDog - 05-31-2009 Oh, crap. Now you have me worried. I had to pour the contents of my RoundUp from the container with the white pump (the same as the one you have that still works) into something else, because the handle was dripping so badly. I bought one of the bigger ones like I think you're trying to describe, but I haven't tried it yet. If it doesn't work, I'm taking it back, and I suggest you do the same. That's what I was told when I was complaining to the guy in the garden center, but by then it was too late for me to do that. I do have a sprayer like Lee3 describes, but I spray few weeds at one time, so the containers with the built in sprayers are much more efficient and not a great place to shave pennies. One of the RoundUp containers usually lasts me three or four years. Re: Anyone else having weed spray pump troubles? - rgG - 05-31-2009 I just sprayed three gallons of weed killer this morning from a Solo backpack style sprayer. I wish I could go three or four years on one container of round-up. I usually can't go one season on a whole bottle of concentrate, which makes up to 10 gallons, depending on how strong you mix it. ![]() Re: Anyone else having weed spray pump troubles? - AlphaDog - 05-31-2009 Clearly you have too many weeds. ![]() Re: Anyone else having weed spray pump troubles? - Lee3 - 05-31-2009 I have poured the pre mixed stuff into empty 409 or fantastic or glass plus pump bottles. Works good for spot treatment. Re: Anyone else having weed spray pump troubles? - Fred_Also - 05-31-2009 If you use a lot of weed killer, look for "Glyphosate 41%" at a lawn and garden or farm/ag store. It's the generic for Roundup and I have found the 2-1/2 gallon jugs for $60 or less. It mixes 2-1/2 oz. per gallon of water and works as good as Roundup. That makes a lot of spray. I also buy the cheap liquid soap at Dollar General and put a squirt in a 2 gallon sprayer to act as a surfactant. Seems to make it stick to the shiny leaves. Fred Also |
