I don't know too much about it. It was my Mom's back yonder and she'd like to get rid of it. One of my friends was saying that older Schwinns are going for quite a bit? If So what's the best way to get some money out of this? If not what do I stick it up on CL for?
It's all in fairly good condition. Needs to be cleaned and the brakes need to be fixed and it could use a new chain. The front chrome fender thing has a dent in it, but otherwise everything is (aside from being dirty) cosmetically fine.
Please Advise!

$75 if you put a new chain on it and clean it up and fix the brakes. That is not a prime Schwinn in my opinion. It doesn't have the wide handlebars or cruiser wheels but definitely a beach bike

Yeah, it's not terribly collectible but would be very sought after in a college town or urban area with a big bike scene.
Probably $75-$125 here in Chicago.
Bet you could get the chain going with a little soak in some lube.
The thing to replace besides the brakes is most likely the tires-- they tend to dry out overtime and could be dangerous. I'd try to get the chain working, and leave all the other stuff to the buyer.

Ok, thanks. I'll start tackling it all tomorrow.
I'll work on the chain and take a look at the brakes then stick it up on CL and see what happens.
My bike is a terrible cheap-o mountain bike, and I plan for my next one to be even cheaper. The stolen-bike rates on campus are startlingly high.

Maybe. Either way, I'm leaning more towards just getting a longboard.

Once you have registered you can post some pictures and ask the knowledgeable folks there for a guesstimate...

Harbourmaster scored big w/ an old Schwinn he lifted from our closet, an orange Varsity from Mrs. Buzz's youth... about triple the Chi-town estimate. IIRC it wasn't a local sale either. Don't be so quick to swap for a longboard; there might be enough left over for hookers and booze, now that you're getting older, and all.

I'd agree with Harbourmaster - check out it's collectibility first unless you are just looking for a quick couple of bucks.
Most aren't worth a huge amount, but better to find out then just giving it away. Yours look very nice by the way.
That's a model I recognize from my youth, spent kicking tires at the local Schwinn dealership.
I would place it in the late 60's to mid 70's. Looks like a Collegiate (should say on chain guard)
I think most of them were 3 speeds but they made 5 speeds like yours too. May or may not effect value.

worked at Mulhaupt's Schwinn, which is where I bought all of the ones I owned (StingRay, Cotton Picker, and
finally saved enough for a Varsity in the mid 70's)
