OT:Anyone viewed Grizzly Man movie? - samintx - 03-26-2006 Treadwell was nutz....I don't see how he was protecting the grizzly by getting around them ....never explained how they were endangered in the places he was going...The documentary is very interesting but makes him out like a god. I'm sorry. Just don't see how he was helping the environs/flora and fauna. "Renowned nonfiction director Werner Herzog chronicles the tragic and untimely death of outdoorsman Timothy Treadwell, who devoted his life to studying grizzly bears living in the Alaskan wilderness -- only to have one of them maul him to death. Pieced together mainly from Treadwell's own video footage, this fascinating documentary goes deep into the wilderness of one man's mind to uncover how he spent his final days. " Re: OT:Anyone viewed Grizzly Man movie? - spearmint - 03-26-2006 Apparently it was on TV? Discovery Channel. http://forums.macresource.com/read/1/51752/51833#msg-51833 Re: OT:Anyone viewed Grizzly Man movie? - Gutenberg - 03-26-2006 I think that ultimately Treadwell got what he wanted, which was notoriety. His girlfriend, on the other hand, didn't fare so well. Re: OT:Anyone viewed Grizzly Man movie? - karsen - 03-26-2006 I watched it on video a couple months back. The guy was nuts for sure. I think he was "helping" the bears by video taping them in the wild and documenting their behavior. But I think he was doing more harm than good. It's a shame his girlfiriend met the same fate he did. It sounded like she had enough and wanted out. Interesting movie, worth seeing. Re: OT:Anyone viewed Grizzly Man movie? - ztirffritz - 03-26-2006 That guy was nucking futz! Bears are wild animals. They make very little distinction between humans and most other small rodents. I'd wager that most people have no concept of how large bears can become: ![]() His girfriend was old enough to decide for herself, and she has no one else to blame. The human race didn't kick, claw, and scratch its way to the top of the evolutionary heap by shaking hands with Grizzlies on a regular basis. I think that people like this are proof that evolution is a work in progress. We're still weeding out the slow and stupid. 1 breeding pair has just been eliminated and the human race is stronger for it. Re: OT:Anyone viewed Grizzly Man movie? - Guitarman - 03-26-2006 As one native Aleut said "I don't see why what he was doing was anything special. We've lived with the grizzlies for thousands of years. Only we stay out of the bears' way, and they stay out of ours. We respect the "Bearness" of the bear." The guy was an out of work actor. 'Nu ff said. See James Frey for more info on out of work show biz types seeking some sort of recognition. Re: OT:Anyone viewed Grizzly Man movie? - Mike Johnson - 03-26-2006 In the documentary, you saw Treadwell go on about how he was protecting bears from poachers. And he spent lots of time in classrooms, teaching kids about how beautiful bears are. And how much fun it is to play with them, I guess. Bears replaced booze. One or the other was going to kill him. It's sad the young lady was killed too, but she put herself in that position. That kind of death is better than getting drunk and driving on the freeway in the wrong direction and killing yourself and your passenger and folks in another car in a head-on collision at a combined 130 mph. Re: OT:Anyone viewed Grizzly Man movie? - Silencio - 03-26-2006 Yep, this topic was hashed and re-hashed on two separate, quite long threads. But I will say again that Werner Herzog is teh awesome. Re: OT:Anyone viewed Grizzly Man movie? - chas_m - 03-26-2006 "Grizzly Man" in no way attempted to make Treadwell out to be "a god." That is a pretty severe misreading of the movie. I can only think you weren't really paying attention. Re: OT:Anyone viewed Grizzly Man movie? - wowzer - 03-26-2006 My take on the movie was that he was a disturbed man. His rants clearly showed a personality defect. I would agree that he replaced alcohol for this other form of addiction. I just feel bad for the bear that had to be killed as a result of grizzly man's idiocy. There is a reason why they are called Grizzly Bears. I guess he will win the darwin award this year.... |
