Microsoft's earnings sank to $3.05 billion, or 34 cents per share, from $4.3 billion, or 46 cents per share, in the same period last year.
So Apple has 1/10 of the market, but 1/3 of the profits of Microsoft. To be fair, Apple is in some different businesses that are extremely profitable, but to counter that, Microsoft has tried to be in most of those same businesses and failed horribly. They haven't tried to make a phone yet, but I think that they've tried everything else that Apple is doing.

I think Microsoft needs to trim the fat.
Ditch Microsoft Windows and stick to writing application software for Mac OS X, Linux, and various flavors of Unix along with embedded devices and game consoles.
I've got a cheap and simple Microsoft-branded USB mouse that I like. Some folks like the X-Box. Ditch all of the other hardware (Zune, I'm looking at you.).
That's my 2 cents.
