Is there a used memory market? - JEBB - 07-24-2009

Once in a while I need to refresh my own memory about using Windows. I have a Thinkpad R40 with XP/SP3 and 1GB of RAM. It runs quite slow compared to my Powerbook and Dell Mini 6. To add a bit of speed I would like to upgrade the memory to 2GB, its limit. The Thinkpad takes PC2100 to PC 2700 SO-DIMM memory modules. I would need two 1GB modules. Two new ones would cost what the rest of the computer is worth on eBay. Any suggestions on where to look for such memory modules? Thanks.

Buy a used laptop on ebay with 2 GB, swap the modules, and then complain to the seller? (kidding, sell it).

Fry's used to have PC2700 SO-DIMMs on sale for about $25 every 8 to 12 weeks. Are you willing to wait to see if it goes on sale again?

DealRam, $33.- and up here...

As you just demonstrate, upping the RAM on his Thinkpad R40 with XP/SP3 would cost far more than it is worth.
