This means the battery is dead, right? ibook G4 - freescotland - 07-25-2009 Had a client go belly up before paying. Small business, offered his backup ibook G4 1 ghz, 1.25g ram, 60, CD-rw, as partial payment on his bill. Seems to work well, except battery I think is shot. Here is the info on the battery power, the 0 on mAh means it is gone, right? Battery Installed: Yes First low level warning: No Full Charge Capacity (mAh): 65532 Remaining Capacity (mAh): 606 Amperage (mA): 0 Voltage (mV): 16419 Cycle Count: 297 I really don't need this ibook, and will likely ebay it. Has power supply. Think it will bring maybe $250 or so? Might try craigslist, but it is not very active in my area and I would just as soon get this thing done. Makes not sense to buy a new battery first, right? thanks Re: This means the battery is dead, right? ibook G4 - JoeH - 07-25-2009 Try resetting the PMU after looking up directions for that particular model and charging for 24 hours. If the remaining capacity and amperage stay low, then the battery is a goner. With a cycle count like that, it is borderline on whether it should have died already. Other persons with more ebay selling can comment on whether it makes sense to buy a new one before selling. I would suspect not, you would probably not get back the cost is my guess. At least you are getting back something from the client. Re: This means the battery is dead, right? ibook G4 - GGD - 07-25-2009 That full charge capacity looks strange, should probably be closer to 4000. The Amperage being 0 is normal when plugged into a charger and the computer is not trying to charge the battery. It's positive when being charged, and negative when running off battery without the charger. Re: This means the battery is dead, right? ibook G4 - StingMe - 07-25-2009 At ~300 cycles, the battery is going to be pretty well used up...but try resetting the PMU and if possible get a hold of another battery just to see if the iBook will charge it (to rule out DC-in board issues). Or just sell it as-is. $250 may be a bit high if the thing needs a new battery - if you have all of the items that originally shipped with the iBook, that might help boost the selling price though...good luck! |
