Source for Replacement Nikon Lens Caps? - chopper - 07-25-2009

Lost the lens cap for my 10.5 2.8 today. My local store wants $40 to order one and Audorama is $36. Are there any cheaper sources or shall I just bite the bullet?

This is the slide on style lens cap, not the usual clip on.

I'm not entirely sure which lens that is... I just ordered one last week. Used Google shopping to search for the part number. you can also get non-nikon branded ones for less.

It is a $600+ fish-eye lens, you might as well get something that fits properly.
Adorama's product page is here: http://www.adorama.com/catalog.tpl?addtocart=NKLC1628&src=main

However, Ken Rockwell says this about the front cap for this lens, which might bode
well for savings:

"Front Cap: Plastic slip-on, marked "61," presumably the inner diameter in millimeters.
Good news: it's the same cap as the 16mm fisheyes! This is good news because I found
one of these caps in a junk box in a camera store for 50 cents to use as a spare.
Last I
looked, about 10 years ago, Nikon extorted $50 each for them. In the good old days
(1984,) these were wonderful metal caps, and sold for the same price as replacements."
