Jeep Owners—How Fast Can You Get the Top Up? - mrlynn - 07-29-2009

From time to time I toy with the idea of getting a Wrangler. But I'm always deterred by the prospect of the time it takes to put up the soft top if it starts to rain. And here in eastern MA it rains a lot.

Even if you run into a store or the bank, with a normal convertible you can push a button and up comes the top. But with a Jeep?

How long does it take you?

In case of rain just drive really fast, it will keep you dry until the rain stops or you have to.

umm. starts to rain worst thing is to "just drive really fast" for any reason, can you guess why?

ah, you own a jeep. Rain is how you wash all the mud out of the interior. You're a rugged individualist anyway.

Is there actually any place in MA where a Jeep Wrangler would be useful in any way whatsoever?

If it snows there, the 4WD would be mighty useful.

Well sure, but the point of a Wrangler is to have high ground clearance and short wheelbase for negotiating boulder-laced trails and an easily hosed out interior for dealing with mud and sand. Snow can be handled by pretty much anything with 4WD and snow tires without delving into the extreme compromises of the Wrangler that are there for serious off-road travel. Of course some people buy Wranglers for looks alone, to heck with the practical issues.

Actually the real problem is when you try to stop or change direction really fast. Constant high velocity isn't a big deal. And yes I was joking but it is true.
