I had hoped to be posting about my new Hackintosh, but USPS... - blusubaru - 07-30-2009 lost the crucial component. I purchased one of the efix USB modules that allow the installation of a stock efi OS. More sophisticated hackers than myself will scoff at such a useless purchase, but I fell my time is well worth the $190 price tag to run a stock OS (no hacks). USPS tracking says that it was delivered to my work address at 846am this morning. "No way" says my driver, who arrives at 115p, like clockwork, every day. I called his manager who said no driver is even on the road at that point in the morning. So, it's lost in limbo somewhere... Re: I had hoped to be posting about my new Hackintosh, but USPS... - miK. - 07-30-2009 That sucks... I am hoping to put one together myself in the next month or so. Was going to go with the Boot 132 method, but may go EFI-X to make life easier too. Care to share your system components? I am still debating between a quad-core or i7 setup. Re: I had hoped to be posting about my new Hackintosh, but USPS... - wowzer - 07-30-2009 The EFI-x looks like a decent piece of hardware...but I didn't know about it when I made my quad core hackintosh. Realistically, I dont think I get close to stressing the quad cores...what does the i7 chip add? Re: I had hoped to be posting about my new Hackintosh, but USPS... - mikebw - 07-30-2009 i7 gives you hyperthreading- double the cores. My Dual-quad core MacPro (Nehalem) at work has 16 cores and I find plenty of opportunities to peg them all. Re: I had hoped to be posting about my new Hackintosh, but USPS... - RAMd®d - 07-30-2009 Is that UPS or USPS? The latter doesn't use drivers to deliver mail. Re: I had hoped to be posting about my new Hackintosh, but USPS... - Biff Lugnut - 07-30-2009 I did a boot132 with a GA-G31M-ES2L and a quad 2.33 that I forget the intel number for. From a "hack" perspective, I don't think the Boot132 method is that much more invasive than the EFI-X dongle. You're still going to need custom KEXT files. Re: I had hoped to be posting about my new Hackintosh, but USPS... - blusubaru - 07-30-2009 It was my driver, daily pick-up and delivery. We ship skids of USPS Priority Mail daily and they know us well. And I agree re the Boot132 method; very simple, easy to update, and everything works*. Plus, you save $150+ not buying the EFI-X. * You have to obtain the right hardware for either method, although Boot132 is more flexible.
