Need advice on transfer of Cubase files from PC to Mac - Randalls - 09-18-2009 Just bought a MBP (10.5) and am using Cubase for some recording. I would like to copy some Cubase files from a friend running a pc with windows XP. He tried burning the files to a CD but they were all coasters. I believe his burner is going out. I was thinking thumb drive or portable hard drive. Would the portable need to be formatted as fat 32? If I used an external drive for back-up any problems with using 2 partitions (HFS+ and Fat32) on the same drive? He is also extremely cautious about catching a virus so no internet connection for transfers. Could I use a cross-over cable or USB cable? Saw this drive on Costco's site. http://www.costco.com/Browse/Product.aspx?Prodid=11280356&cm_mmc=BCEmail_SepMVM-_-Focus-_-23-_-WesternDigitalHD It says "use for sharing large files between office & home, between PC & Mac" but they don't explain how. I apologize for my naivete. Any suggestions appreciated. Anyone with experience moving and using cross platform Cubase files especially appreciated. It doesn't need to be a special crossover cable. Re: Need advice on transfer of Cubase files from PC to Mac - Doc - 09-18-2009 FAT32 volumes would work. They are read/writable on both Windows PCs and Macs. The CDs probably didn't work because he burnt them as sessions with the built-in burning software and never closed/finalized the discs. Most people don't know how to do that under Windows. I've never moved Cubase files cross-platform before. I'd get extra copies of the files in OMFI, SDII or AIFF format just in case... and MIDI files if any of it's MIDI. Re: Need advice on transfer of Cubase files from PC to Mac - olnacl - 09-18-2009 I believe the portable could be formatted as NTFS and the Mac could still copy them. If the files are large (4 GB +) you'll need NTFS anyway. I just copied a folder of files from my NTFS Boot Camp partition to the Mac partition with no problem.
