How Long Can You Survive With What You Have? - Lee3 - 09-23-2009

How long can you survive with the food in your house right now? Down to your last "toaster leavings (crumbs)" Water is more important, but we will leave that aside.

They say here in CA you should have 2 weeks worth in case of a disaster, such as a huge earthquake. The stuff in the freezer is problem, as it won't last long with out electricity. Better eat that first. I wonder how you will cook it. I have camping stuff for that.

I can last a month I figure. Mormons can last a year.

So, how long can you survive?

I have LOTS of ammo. As long as someone nearby has provisions, I'm fine.....

If I can count the dairy cows across the road, more than 6 months before malnutrition sets in from lack of vegetables.

As it is, well more than a month... though the last few weeks are going to be some sparse meals.
If my little generator can run my fridge and freezer until they're emptied, I can probably get two months... but again, last few weeks will be sparse.

I have a ton of food in the freezer. I eat about a dixie cup a meal.
If that doesn't spoil, or I eat it before it does, it will last a looong time.
I have three cold storage devices. (2 fridges, 1 deep freezer) Stocked to the freaking brims.

For plants I also have dozens of bottled water gallons, mostly distilled.
Two pantries of boxed goods and such, too.

I can get what I need, and keep what I get.

I'm good.

it would mean eating rice and beans sparingly but probably a month in case of disaster. i would probably have to kill myself sooner than that, though, just to get away from my teenage son's complaining about the lack of desirable food.

Just be careful if you start tapping into that distilled water for yourself - it'll suck the minerals right out of you and leave you in a bad way if you consume sufficient quantities. On the other hand, it's great for long term storage!

I pick (dig) carrots and beets all Winter.
I have a freezer and a half full of squash, squash, squash, blueberries, rasberries, peaches and pears.
and more squash.

I tend to stock up on canned goods on sale in the Winter and deplete the stocks in the Summer

I have an old outside fireplace I could cook on with wood or charcoal.

If the power went out I'd have to eat about 20 pounds of frozen meats pretty quick.

I could survive for a bit over a month with no warning, but I'd be pretty tired of canned soup and tomatoes at the end.

If I ever build my root -wine cellar / bomb shelter and stock it well I could go years.
