Cash for Clunkers = FAIL - Harbourmaster - 09-23-2009

Among the list of unusual clunkers turned in under the federal cash-for-clunkers program:

1997 Aston Martin DB7 Volante:

1988 Aurora Cars Ltd. (Shelby cobra replica)

1992 BMW 850i

1987 Buick GNX 1987

1987 Excalibur Autos Phaeton

1990 Laforza

1985 Maserati Quattroporte

1999 Mercedes C43 AMG

1992 GMC Typhoon

1997 Rolls-Royce Continental R

2006 Roush Stage 3 F-150

And 37 people decided to clunk models that were less than a year old.

It wasn't a total loss ...

"and the program also liberated 22 Americans from the burden of owning a Peugeot."

Re: Cash for Clunkers = FAIL - Acer - 09-23-2009

How could you turn in a clunker "less than a year old?" The law said it had to be 2002 or older.

Also, there are two types of idiots here: the morons owners who "clunked" rare cars that were worth much more than the clunker rebate, and the lazy or clueless car dealerships who should have paid the owner the rebate out of their own pocket, and made a handsome profit on the resale.

Re: Cash for Clunkers = FAIL - Racer X - 09-23-2009

Jeebus! A GNX? That thing is worth about 4-5 times what he got for it as trade-in. fargin' idiot!

That and the Typhoon.

Re: Cash for Clunkers = FAIL - davester - 09-23-2009

I call BS on that article*. Some things don't make sense (like how do you turn in a 2008 clunker when the program rules don't allow it, not to mention that there's no discussion of the condition of those supposed rare vehicles. Anyway, as Acer indicated, the "FAIL" would be with the moronic owners junking rare and valuable vehicles if true (or the even more moronic car dealers for clunking vehicles they could make money on).

*not to mention that their gawdawful website doesn't render properly in Firefox.

Will there be similar deal for old bicycles?

Wink

Re: Cash for Clunkers = FAIL - DeusxMac - 09-23-2009

Agree, it's a bogus article. You can't believe everything you read on the net no matter how official it looks. :bs:

Side note regarding the comments about dealers; they were prohibited from reselling cars taken in under the program. I believe Acer was alluding to this with the comment about paying out of pocket, implying that they would not process the car through the program.

Watch it OP. C4C has a special place in some people's hearts around here. Don't question it or else..
