Update on back surgery - Grateful11 - 10-13-2009

I found yesterday why the Doc didn't want me to even ride in a car for 2-3 weeks.
My incision had developed a small amount of infection so they wanted me to
come in and be checked out, that was one horrible 50 minute ride even with
the seat reclined, I so lightheaded when I got there it took two people and myself to
get me out the car. Found out I also have a Urinary Tract Infection from the
catheter while in the hospital, I figured I had one you can pretty much tell
when you've got one if you know what I mean. Anyway they put me an
antibiotic that will cover both. The infection in the incision is superficial at
this point, it was forming where they had a HemaVac inserted into the
incision. I'm getting around the house pretty good. I thought I might
actually enjoy getting out for a while yesterday but the pain of the ride
killed it for me. They're going to check it again next week at a closer branch
office they have, about 15 minute ride. So far about 1/3 or more of left
leg is numb but they that was normal because the nerves had been pinched
for so long and they take time get back normal. The Doc said he could
actually see them move when he spread my vertebrae apart and trimmed
around the nerves. On several occasions I've had the sensation of a strong
electrical shock run down left leg, once 6 times in a row. If you ever
touched an igntion coil wire on an old car while it's a bit damp then
you'd know what it felt like.
Later!

best wishes to you

ouch

my sympathies

hang in there, it'll get better

FWIW, after surgery, I found that stretching out on the back seat was a bit easier than the front. I could brace on both sides for the inevitable potholes.

Keep your spirits up. You will heal.

Patience, grasshopper . . . prayers for your continued recovery. Keep the spirits up . . . raise them up in a glass, when necessary . . . :drink:

Persuade them to have a visiting nurse come to YOUR house.
Tell them you just can't come in (it's so bad).

Been there. Done that.

Re: Update on back surgery - Surfrider - 10-13-2009

I had a sobering conversation on Friday with my Doc about my situation, which is similar to yours. Please keep us updated on your progress. I'm toying with it (operation) but I think I'll wait awhile, the pain, while bad, is bearable...sort of...

All the best!

Hang in there, and keep us posted when you feel up to it.

Re: Update on back surgery - Pam - 10-13-2009

Other than the car ride and the not unexpected infections, it sounds like you're progressing nicely. Keep following doctor's orders. I hope the next several weeks have you feeling more and more like your old self. Minus the back pain Smile
