Vintage Lego's... Worth anything? - spacescape - 11-23-2009 Planning on upgrading my sons Duplo's to regular lego's for Christmas this year. He's 4-1/2 and his occupational therapist said that he is ready (she worked with him for a few minutes last session to make sure they wouldn't frustrate him) however don't get him too many small pieces. It seems like most sets come with small pieces but we can just put those away for now. Question... I have "all" my legos from the 80's... Most complete however most of them do not have the boxes. Thought about giving him some of my less than complete sets (misc. pieces) but mainly "roads" and "grass" and "trees"... Is this a "bad" idea? Seems like most of these sets aren't worth much. With the exception of my space lego sets which are staying in storage. Anyone collect? Re: Vintage Lego's... Worth anything? - mikebw - 11-23-2009 My mom kept all the boxes for our sets and searching by the set numbers you could sell them all for about the same price as what they were purchased for back in the mid-80's to 90's. Without the box probably not so much. I would say let him go for it, most of the pieces are indestructible anyway. Re: Vintage Lego's... Worth anything? - cbelt3 - 11-23-2009 I agree. And keep the Duplo, too. They make awesome walls for big castles and suchlike ! We have legos from when I was a kid in the 60's. We even have some bricks from Playskool... they made plastic bricks in the early 60's for a while. Not fully plug compatible with Legos, but still really cool. Re: Vintage Lego's... Worth anything? - OWC Jamie - 11-23-2009 As collectors items I think they have to be unused in an unopened box or otherwise intact still in the plastic bags they came in. Re: Vintage Lego's... Worth anything? - Grateful11 - 11-23-2009 >"Anyone collect?" We have a few or should say we had a lot. We decided to keep quite a few of the Star Wars sets, especially the Millennium Falcon. Most of the bulk is now sold off, sold most of Mini Figures last night. We sold over $700 worth last night. We have a couple of tubs full of our sons Lego that we kept plus all their Brio and Thomas wooden track. Somethings we just couldn't let go of. Here's small portion of what we bought at that auction. There's one shelf of Disney Monorail stuff. There was about 4 or 5 more containers and a couple really big boxes full. There's a Mac Cube box in the background too. ![]() ![]() ![]() Re: Vintage Lego's... Worth anything? - spacescape - 11-23-2009 Holy Cow!!! Re: Vintage Lego's... Worth anything? - Grateful11 - 11-23-2009 I've seen two TV clips on Legos on the news lately. It seems that even though we're in a recession Lego sales have gone up 38% since the recession start here in the US. Found the ABC clip, it's well worth watching: http://abcnews.go.com/video/playerIndex?id=9101979 http://blogs.abcnews.com/theworldnewser/2009/11/lego-madness-iconic-toy-company-thrives-despite-recession.html Re: Vintage Lego's... Worth anything? - hal - 11-23-2009 to me, legos were little plastic blocks that when fused together, make things. I was grown up by the time that 'themed' legos were made. The things I had were just squares and rectangles from the 60s. Surely those things couldn't be worth anything - right? Re: Vintage Lego's... Worth anything? - MacArtist - 11-23-2009 The Legos I had were old school. I had some specialized pieces like doors and windows. Green angled blocks and green cap blocks for making roofs. Otherwise, it was good old square and rectangular shaped blocks. No themes, no Lego people. Just Legos and lots of imagination. I think the vacuum cleaner got some of my Legos. I'm sure the trash got the rest. Parents get upset when the step on the bigger pieces. Re: Vintage Lego's... Worth anything? - AAA - 11-23-2009 spacescape wrote: what he said! |
