Didn't read the article, just want to comment on the idea. Like I could totally work an iPhone app, let alone turn on the Phone, if I were over the legal limit...

A friend of mine recently scored a DUI. I couldn't bring up the article but I hope the app helps some people to make better decisions.

It's very difficult to estimate what your BAC will be after a certain number of drinks.
Take wine as an example. There are German wines that have an alcohol content as low as 8%, while there are dry red wines over 15%.
There is the same problem with beer.
Or 80 proof versus 100 proof hard stuff.
The best thing to do is get one of those inexpensive ($40-$50) BAC meters.
Better safe than sorry...

You can buy small, cheap, key-chain sized BAC meters. I have found that, at least in the quality establishments I tend to frequent, it did not curtail anyone's drinking. In fact, a contest was started to see who could score the highest. The fun was over when a biker named Vulgar bit the meter in half.
I got my $15 worth out of it.

They are notoriously inaccurate and most even come with disclaimers that they are for entertainment purposes only and are not to be relied upon to determine intoxication.
