Someone gave me a Belkin Router but the PS is missing will this work? - Grateful11 - 12-02-2009 The Router, a Belkin F5D7230-4, has 5V/2A molded on the case. The closest Power Supply I have that the connector actually fits is a 4.5V/600mA. I found a Power Supply that has the correct voltage and amperage but he connector doesn't fit. I would have to the 2 cords and splice them together for to be an exact match or order a PS off eBay which I hate to do not whether it works or not. Will this slightly less voltage and amperage PS at least power it long enough to see if the thing actually works. Also why does Belkin use the same model # on different styles of routers? I just searched their site and it shows a completely different router. This is the one I have: ![]() http://catalog.belkin.com/IWCatProductPage.process?Product_Id=136493 Re: Someone gave me a Belkin Router but the PS is missing will this work? - kj4btkljv - 12-02-2009 Belkin might be able to sell you one. Contact them and tell them which model you've got. http://www.belkin.com/contactus/index.asp Jeff Re: Someone gave me a Belkin Router but the PS is missing will this work? - Jem - 12-02-2009 If the Belkin case says it needs 2 Amps, then you need a power supply that supplies at least 2 Amps. The 4.5V is close enough that it might *otherwise* work, since the voltage ratings on power adapters tend to vary a bit from what is displayed on them. This is why it is really recommended that you use the brick that came paired with it from the manufacturer. If you choose to splice it make *damn* sure you get the polarity spliced the right way. If there is no blocking diode in the circuitry you will likely fry something otherwise. FWIW, I have re-used old power bricks with routers and hubs that had "lost" their power bricks, and as long as I got the specs pretty close they seemed to work okay... so it can be done. Good luck! Re: Someone gave me a Belkin Router but the PS is missing will this work? - mattkime - 12-02-2009 I've done plenty of this stuff recently and I'd recommend doing the splice. Do you have a multimeter to see if you have the polarity correct? thats necessarily unless you're comfortable with guessing. Re: Someone gave me a Belkin Router but the PS is missing will this work? - Grateful11 - 12-02-2009 I've got a couple multimeters. I figured the voltage was close enough but wasn't too sure about the amperage, so I'll probably try a splice. I'm using a similar Belkin just smaller and only on antenna but it's 3.5V or something. It's a shame they have use so many different plug ends on these things. My USB 2.0 Hub came from Newegg today and I noticed that it was 5V/2A but guess what, wrong mini plug. Nearly all the replacement PS's on eBay are in China. Re: Someone gave me a Belkin Router but the PS is missing will this work? - modelamac - 12-02-2009 You can try Radio Shack for Adapter kits for that PS. I k ow there are kits that have several style connectors that are swappable. It was the cheapest I could find. Re: Someone gave me a Belkin Router but the PS is missing will this work? - BernDog - 12-02-2009 Splice away. Re: Someone gave me a Belkin Router but the PS is missing will this work? - Black - 12-02-2009 That's my router. Power supply say: Leader Electronics ITE Power Supply Model No MT-15-5050200 Input 100-120v 50/60 Hz 0.5A Output 5.0V 2.0A. Re: Someone gave me a Belkin Router but the PS is missing will this work? - Black - 12-02-2009 Oh, I say splice away too. (oops-- my Router's a 7231 . . .) |
