I just saw an ad for "Charlie Brown's Christmas" on Blu-Ray and ..... - Grateful11 - 12-04-2009

I don't get it, it's a 40 some year cartoon most likely filmed in 4:3 AR. Why does it need to be put
on Blu-Ray, now if we're talking about "Gone With The Wind" remastered and put on Blu-Ray I
could see it. I realize it's a chance to make some more money on a show that's probably going
to be on network TV ever year for the forseeable future.

I would say b/c it's a chance to make some more money on a show that's probably going to be on network TV ever year for the forseeable future.

Why don't clean up "The African Queen" and put it on Blu-Ray or at least DVD?

Gone With the Wind was probably filmed in 4:3 too.

Dunno... Some remastering is pretty intense. I used to work at a place where we leased a $3 million de-noise system for remastering movies and it took quite a bit of knowledge to do it well. (Since the lowest unpaid intern on the totem pole was usually assigned to the job, you can probably guess how much they cared about doing it well.)

If they did a frame-by-frame restoration from the original film and made the original soundtrack into a powerful 7:1 audio mix, that would justify a Blu-ray release.

OTOH, if they just upscaled the lousy unrestored DVD-video for Blu-ray, that would suck... and that is, of course, exactly what they did.

I have to say that I saw "The Grinch Who Stole christmas" on HD ABC a few nights ago and was horrified by how pumped up the saturation was... to the point of being distracting. Colors were too bright, the grinch too green, etc., etc.

Sometimes Old School stuff is best left alone. Can't imagine it would be any different with Charlie Brown...
