We currently have Comcast on 3 TVs. The HDTV has an HD-DVR. The other two CRTs just have a regular digital converter box. We do not pay for any of them per our sign-up deal.
We just got 2 new LCD HDTVs and I want to upgrade their converter boxes to HD also. Once I get the HD boxes, I'm going to turn in the SD digital converters and likely Freecycle the CRT TVs.
The Comcast rep I spoke with tonight told me that the $5.99 I get charged (and refunded) for the SD converter boxes is for the service, not the box. If I upgrade to HD converter boxes, I would be charged the $5.99 plus an extra $6.95 per month per box. This does not seem right to me. If I chose another HD-DVR, it would be $5.99 + $15.95/month for that outlet.
Those of you with HD converter boxes, will you please check your bill and let me know how much you pay for the service and HD box(es)? Thanks.

Comcast charges me $15.95 per month for the HD box with DVR and $61.99 for digital starter pkg for my primary TV. The second TV is a CRT on a digital converter box for no charge. Don't know what a second HD DVR box would cost. There are no outlet charges showing on my bill.

I quit Comcast more than a year ago, but what you're describing sounds about right for their billing nonsense.

have you tried just plugging the coax cable straight into the new TV?
I just got a new TV with QAM tuner and I get 117 digital channels, on top of the 23 analog ones. my bill is like 15.90 for cable and 24.99 for Internet (which will go up to 42 for internet after 6 months)

Every time something similar comes up, the geographic variations start emerging. I can check my Comcast bill, but I can tell you that I do not pay anything for those little digital converter boxes, so there would be no credits issued if I added HD on other sets. Oh, and I get three free digital converters and some people don't get any free ones. Furthermore, my built in QAM tuner is now worthless - I can't get anything without the little digital box attached, although I used to be able to before changes made by Comcast in October.

In regions where Comcast has introduced Digital Terminal Adapters (DTA's), you can only receive Standard Def, local channels via direct COAX connection. They have eliminated clear QAM channels (digital, expanded programming).
To receive HD programming, Comcast charges about $7 per HD set top box. So if you want 3 HDTV's receiving HD programming, prepare to pay up.
In my case, I have a Tivo HD with a cable card instead of a Comcast HD-DVR. I pay $2 for the cable card only. Tivo + lifetime sub is a tradeoff vs renting the Comcast DVR @ $20 additional a month. I also pay $7 for an HD box to my 2nd HDTV.

Thanks for the info. However, what the rep was telling me was that I would have to pay the $7 for each box, PLUS another $6/box (currently refunded per promotion) for the ability to access the service (in addition to the $40+ each month). That doesn't seem right and it doesn't sound like you are paying that either.
