usenet binary question - lazydays - 12-04-2009 It has been mentioned here that usenet is a source for downloading popular tv shows. I've been poking around and I'm having a hard time finding anything. What newsgroups are good for this? Thanks! Re: usenet binary question - rtwdwk - 12-04-2009 alt.binary.mutimedia. Re: usenet binary question - Spock - 12-04-2009 Try alt.binaries.tv. Re: usenet binary question - freeradical - 12-04-2009 There are tons of them. This is a very busy group. alt.binaries.multimedia.cooking Do a search with your newreader software for things like: hdtv, tv Re: usenet binary question - lazydays - 12-04-2009 Ok, i appear to have a par2 file? A ton of files labeled whatever.001 002 003 etc. With the last one being a whatever.par2 file. What is the best app to put it all back together. Re: usenet binary question - freeradical - 12-04-2009 lazydays wrote: That's a straight binary split, as opposed to rar's. Use split and concat to put it together, and MacPar deluxe to fix corrupt segments. The par files are used to fix corrupt data. Only download as much as you need to fix things. They are parity files similar to those that are used to recover the data on raid volumes. http://www.xs4all.nl/~gp/Site/MacPAR_deLuxe.html http://www.xs4all.nl/~loekjehe/Split&Concat/ Re: usenet binary question - lazydays - 12-04-2009 Thanks for the help. This is definitely more difficult that torrents but it is my understanding it is "safer." Re: usenet binary question - IronMac - 12-04-2009 It's a piece of cake, lazydays...it took a while to figure out though. Keep us updated here. ![]() Re: usenet binary question - lazydays - 12-04-2009 HMM, alt.binaries.multimedia has some fringe episodes but I haven't found any castle episodes. Re: usenet binary question - Fred_Also - 12-04-2009 If you go to: http://tvnzb.com/index.php (the top of this page is NSFW - just a warning) you can search and download the nzb files for the shows episodes you want. You don't have to worry about what newgroup they are coming from. Then download SABnzbdPlus 0.4.12 http://www.macupdate.com/info.php/id/25236/sabnzbdplus When you run SAB - it opens a window in your browser with config info that you need to set up. It has tabs at the top - config, history, connection, qued up files, etc. It sets up an Incomplete and Complete folder in your downloads directory. (can't remember if you have to create them and point it to them) Once you get it setup, it automates everything. You just search and download the nzb files. SAB takes over and a while later the shows are in your Complete folder. One setup problem I had was it wanted to use port 8080 and I had a camera system using that port already. So I changed it to port 8081 and it works great. Fred Also What newgroup service are you using? I need to find a good and inexpensive one. |
