Anyone here lives in Williams, OR? - kap - 12-04-2009

A good friend of my wife moved there a few weeks ago after living in So. CA. for 48 years. She did it out of her partner's respect. Also, she wanted to give it a try. My wife visited her over the Thanksgiving holiday. Before the visit was over, the friend has already planned to have our entire family visiting more than there are holidays in a year! According to the Wife it's a wonderful place to be if one is retired. We are far from that point.

Been through there a few times...
Gorgeous area. But don't expect "big city" amenities!

I'm athinking it would be more than a bit chillier than what people accustomed to So Cal would find comfy, too. There's a pretty distinct variation in seasonal temperatures down in that area. I agree with Paul F. about it being beautiful, though.

When did you get married, kap?

I had to Google it. Looks like about 15 miles south of Grants Pass and 20 miles west of Medford (and Interstate 5) in southwest Oregon (distance is a guesstimate).

I've driven through eastern Oregon, and it's quite beautiful in it's own way.

Williams doesn't look much like Eastern Oregon...
Eastern Oregon is more flat, with less trees... And hotter than hell in the summer.

Beautiful area. My BIL lives in Grant's Pass. Also just a hop-skip-jump to the redwoods. Ashland is a nice little town too.
A bit of a difference from SoCal but not as cold in winter as here in Michigan.

Yes, I know, but many people are unaware that there is more to Oregon than it's rain forest coastline.

There is also a difference between the southern and northern parts of eastern Oregon.

This is a picture found on Google Earth of eastern Oregon.

Yup!

Darn nice area in the spring!
When you're driving through in the middle of summer in a car with no air conditioning, maybe not so much. Big Grin

I live about an hour north of there, we were down that way over the summer several times. It is a nice area that reminds me of Northern California (maybe because it's so close). There are four seasons though the climate is a little drier than were I am. We have family in Grants Pass so we get down there fairly often. I spoke with my MIL last night and apparently they've had fog and very cold weather all this week.
