Digital Photo frame recommendations? - timg - 12-04-2009 I'm looking to get a digital photo frame for my wife for Christmas. I'd like something 7" or larger, with resolution at least 800x600. Anyone have any good experiences to share? Re: Digital Photo frame recommendations? - pRICE cUBE - 12-04-2009 I have been thinking about this lately. Wouldn't it be more fun to modify a netbook and have it run pics and video for what you would spend for one of these larger digi frames? Re: Digital Photo frame recommendations? - Racer X - 12-04-2009 I could see a little cover that would sit over the keyboard to hide it. Think decorative kleenex box cover. Maybe black plexiglass or a nice wood veneer. That's a good idea, using a netbook. They have SD card slots already. Re: Digital Photo frame recommendations? - presseditor - 12-04-2009 I've got some of the Sony DPF-D92 here at my office doing a slideshow informational display at our front counter. They look sleek and classy, they were a cinch to set up, with fairly intuitive menus. Pop in an SD card with image files, and you're good to go. Handy remote included, and a nifty clock and timer built in. One click on the remote switches from slideshow to clock or calendar. I was even able to program them to turn on at 8am and off at 5pm automatically Monday through Friday. Now I need a couple for home. -Ron Re: Digital Photo frame recommendations? - Seacrest - 12-04-2009 timg wrote: The 4:3 ratio is much more expensive. I have a Samsung 9" 800x600 that doubles as a USB monitor on Windows, but it actually just sit in its box. It's decent, but I have little to no use for it at the moment. Re: Digital Photo frame recommendations? - GeneL - 12-04-2009 I first purchased a Digital Spectrum 8.4" frame from Amazon for $70 and loved it, but on Black Friday I found a 12" model at Staples for the same $70. At that price, I had to buy one and try it out at home. I loved the 12" size compared to the smaller 8" frame, but the picture quality and function of this model was nowhere as good as the Digital Spectrum frame, so I returned it. I totally recommend getting a 12" frame! I went back to Amazon and found the 12" version of the 8" frame that I had liked so much and ordered two of them. They arrived today (free std shipping only took a week) and I had one set up in 5 minutes. I immediately knew that this was the one! The pictures were beautiful on this frame. ![]() I'm using an 8gb sdhc card with no problem and I'd bet that you could even go bigger. That's thousands of pictures! I checked with customer support and found that you can store the pix in folders on the card and select each separately. I plan to put old family pictures scanned from photographs in my Mom's old album in a separate folder plus current pictures in another. This will be my Christmas/Hanukkah gift for my son and his family. The 12" frame comes with several frame options and (this is great!) you can use it in portrait mode as well as landscape. The way this works is that you can go through your pictures and select a portrait oriented photo pause it and rotate it in the frame and then rotate the frame itself to keep that picture showing for as long as you want as opposed to just letting it do a slide show. There's an included remote which is very handy. The buttons are a little hard to use, but you get used to it and it does make it easy to access all of the frames functions. There's actually a lot more functions and features that make these frames tops IMHO. I am totally satisfied with these frames and I do feel that $100 for the 12" size is a bargain. I really did a lot of searching and found that all the other frames of this size and quality are a lot more expensive. Bottom line, picture quality and size were the deciding factors for me and these frames were clearly better for the money than any other options that I found. 12" model: http://tinyurl.com/ycuno62 8" model: http://tinyurl.com/yzzgq9a Re: Digital Photo frame recommendations? - timg - 12-04-2009 Thanks for the recommendations. If it was for me, I'd be all over the netbook idea. But, since it's supposed to be a Christmas gift and not a personal project, I don't think that one will fly. I looked into the Sony, but that one may be a little pricey. The ones that GeneL recommended are in a better range, although there seem to be some mixed reviews on Amazon. Re: Digital Photo frame recommendations? - GeneL - 12-05-2009 timg wrote: Forget the mixed reviews, timg. I'm looking at the frame right now and it has a brilliant and sharp picture on the screen (it will only be as good as the file you put on the frame, of course). The picture is as sharp and bright as can be, the frame itself is really attractive and the use with the remote, once you figure it out (not really difficult) makes accessing the features very easy, That includes the ability to play audio and video clips as well as slide shows and stills. I have had the opportunity to compare the Digital Spectrum frame with others and, as a very critical and discriminating individual (those who know me will attest to that), I can say this frame is a wonderful solution. Since you are here on the forum, if you don't like it, you can harass me if I'm wrong, but I wouldn't give such a strong recommendation if I wasn't wholeheartedly convinced of this product's quality. You can drive yourself nuts, trying to decide. I've already done that and this recommendation is the result. Additionally, you won't get stuck with it, since if you don't like it, Amazon will take it back. No, I don't get a commission if you by one. ![]() Order it, already! GeneL Re: Digital Photo frame recommendations? - lazydays - 12-05-2009 When BGR was here he swore by the Coby digital frames. Some of them can play xvid files as well. Available at amazon. I just bought one for my mother and will post a short review once it arrives. Re: Digital Photo frame recommendations? - Mac1337 - 12-05-2009 I must admit I don't fully see the utility of these frames. Do you hang it up somewhere with a fixed pic or a slide show? Either way it gets boring after a while. What about the power cord, specially if it goes on the wall? I am afraid it may end up in a drawer somewhere just like the real albums. |
