Maximum wireless N speeds - dochocson - 12-05-2009
Is it the case with Wireless-N routers that they will top out at the speed of the slowest connected device?
That's the case with our current Wireless-G router, and I can't really tell from the literature if the N devices work the same way.

Are you talking about a mixture of G and N, or only N?

Mixed network, G and N devices with an N router. Will the N devices get N speeds or get throttled back to G speeds?

Lowest speed device rules. Or you could get a dual band router - n on one and g on the other

Dual band N supposed to use two frequencies, A (5 GHz) and B/G (2.4 GHz). The 5 GHz channels do not overlap like the 2.4 GHz channels do. Getting full speed on N in the 2.4 GHz band requires 4 channels and multiple antennas. Having G devices will slow it down but the N devices should work faster than the G.

N devices on mixed N and G network here, using Buffalo WHR-G300N. N devices are definitely faster than G devices. Have seen transfer speeds reach 6-7MB/sec. file transfer. No chance of getting that on G. Even the N device on the old G network would max at about 2.5MB/sec.
