Had a temporary cap on my tooth and... - MacArtist - 12-06-2009 I swallowed it at supper tonight. I knew the glue was starting to let go but I was trying to be careful and chew on the other side. I went in to check it out in the mirror and it was GONE! My wife gives me that "You're a dufus" look and tells me it will pass through. Very reassuring. Thanks honey. Meanwhile, I can't drink anything cold or it feels like a nail driving into my jaw. I'm having a great week. You might want to wash it first! :turbo: Fred Also Re: Had a temporary cap on my tooth and... - Winston - 12-06-2009 I pulled a cap off chewing what amounted to some very sticky candy (drippings from the sauce I use on winter squash). Didn't realize it at first and chewed the cap up some before I realized what it was. I was on vacation, so had to make do for a week or so before I got back to my dentist. It's a hassle, but I assume if you have a temp that means the permanent one will be back from the lab soon. I have a tooth that's going and I have to favor that side. Trying to hold off on the cap as long as I can. Tomorrow starts a new week. So it has to be better right? Good luck. - Winston Re: Had a temporary cap on my tooth and... - rgG - 12-06-2009 Damn, Jim, this really hasn't been your week, has it. Anyway, here is what I found online: " If you've lost the filling or crown, you can use over-the-counter dental cement to cover the tooth surface. This will help to protect and seal the area until you're able to see your dentist, and can make you more comfortable I carry some of this in my purse, just in case something like that happens to me. They should have it at a drug store near you. ![]() http://www.walgreens.com/store/catalog/Medications-and-Pain-Relief/Maximum-Strength-Fillings-and-Caps-Dental-Repair/ID=prod2339&navCount=1&navAction=push-product?V=G&ec=frgl_626873&ci_src=14110944&ci_sku=sku302339 Re: Had a temporary cap on my tooth and... - MacArtist - 12-06-2009 I'll give the dentist a call Monday morning. It's not causing me any pain right now. I'll pick up the OTC dental fix stuff for future problems. A new week starts today. Re: Had a temporary cap on my tooth and... - Fritz - 12-06-2009 My spousal unit has been thru this the last coupla weeks. I dunno why dentists bother with the temp cap. I went thru the same nonsense. They should just give you a liquid diet until the perm comes in. Her jaw is in such pain just from 3 hours in the chair. That's what I remember too. Thanksgiving was fun for her. Next time I'll have them yank the tooth. PIMFA. Re: Had a temporary cap on my tooth and... - rgG - 12-06-2009 BTW, my dentist now has his own little crown milling machine right in his office. They do it all on-site, while you wait, so you leave that day with your permanent crown. He was so thrilled with his new toy, when he first got it, he took me back and let me watch it mill my crown from a little block of porcelain. Pretty cool, but crowns are waaaaay too expensive, IMHO.
