Battery power for cpap? - lazydays - 01-29-2010 I am going sailing in a few months and will be sleeping on the boat. I've become very attached to my cpap machine though and I don't want to go without it. I'm told I cannot be guaranteed a 110 outlet. There "may" be a cigarette outlet but again no guarantee. I'm wondering if I can just buy a battery pack? I'm googling but not seeing a commercial product yet. Any recommendations would be great. Re: Battery power for cpap? - Gareth - 01-29-2010 Does it take 110V directly? Or does it use an AC to DC adapter? In which case, what is the volt and amp rating of the adapter? You could get one of the car battery jumper packs that has a 110 outlet, or this Xantrex UPS (which is only 400watts, but thus lasts a LOT longer than traditional UPS's on battery power, but it's also HEAVY): http://www.amazon.com/Xantrex-Technologies-852-0400-PowerSource-400-Watt/dp/tech-data/B000E6LEI2/ref=de_a_smtd If it uses an AC to DC adapter, then you could probably get a lithium-ion battery pack, depending on the power requirements. i.e. http://tekkeon.com/products-mypowerall.html Re: Battery power for cpap? - AlphaDog - 01-29-2010 Have you checked with your provider? A guy was out last week showing me a really great oxygen concentrator that was capable of standard 110, battery operation, or powered from the car cigarette lighter. It wasn't practical for every day use for me, but I did learn that it's available for short periods if I want to get one to use for travel. You might find something similar for the CPAP machines. Edit to keep spelling police at bay. Re: Battery power for cpap? - lazydays - 01-29-2010 My cpap uses an AC to DC converter. I don't have the specs with me right now, they machine is at home, but I could post them tonight. I found a commercial battery pack for $300 that provides 12v but the user reviews say it lasts about 1.5 nights. I only NEED 1 night but I wouldn't mind having power for 2 in case I want to go camping etc. http://www.cpap.com/cpap-machine/CPAP.com-Lithium-Ion-Battery-Pack.html#keyproductinformation Re: Battery power for cpap? - Bill in NC - 01-29-2010 That battery pack is small, but only 7 amp-hour capacity The large, heavy (35lb) Xpower UPS has a 40 amp-hour capacity... Re: Battery power for cpap? - Racer X - 01-30-2010 a friend has a CPAP that he uses on his boat all the time. Yours is probably a 12V DC model, and it has an AC wall wart-style adapter that you are using at home. Most are made that way. Simple adapter probably would make it work on the boat. Re: Battery power for cpap? - Bill in NC - 01-30-2010 If you just need 12VDC, this portable jump pack has a standard cigarette outlet with an 18 amp-hour battery: http://bit.ly/bkv0pA |
