Charlie Wilson, Former Congressman From Texas, Dies at 76
Charlie Wilson, the congressman from East Texas who became immortalized by Hollywood for his efforts in leading U.S. support to Afghanistan during the Afghan-Soviet war, died today at the age of 76.
After working in government, Wilson tells all in 'Charlie Wilson's War.'
A spokesman for Lufkin Memorial Hospital in East Texas told The Associated Press Wilson died of cardiopulmonary arrest.
In the 1980s, the young Wilson seemed the unlikeliest of crusaders.
At the time, he was best known as the hard-drinking, hard-partying Texas congressman with a penchant for beautiful women. His wild lifestyle earned him the nickname Good Time Charlie.

But yeah. They should be weeping for him in Afghanistan and Pakistan as well. He was good friends with both 'nations'.
Say what you like, but he purely kicked the Rooskie's butts. I never saw the film, but I did read the book, and it's very well done. Reads like a spy novel, but it's all true, true, and truer.

That's just the listed cause. You must know that better than I do.
My father died of complications following bypass surgery with four infections and kidney failure and god knows what all, but the "cause of death" was attributed to his heart which had of course stopped.

Considering Charlie's tastes and vices, he lived to be older than many who have such appetites. I'm glad he made it this far, and wish he'd been around to witness more history unfold.
