what feature do you want in the next version of osx? - lazydays - 02-19-2010

I was thinking today, just what additional features do I want in the next release of osx?

I'd like itunes sync feature to be handled better. It can really drag itunes performance down when it is running to multiple devices simultaneously.

I'd also like more control over when iTunes sync's. Currently it syncs immediately after new content is added, then i add genre tags and have to force a 2nd sync. I finally switched to manual syncing.

I'd like addressbook to allow for some kind of relationship codes, or cohabiting codes, so that I don't have to enter the home address or home phone number twice.

I think addressbook should allow you to pick an iphoto picture for a person. It is kind of weird that that level of integration isn't there yet. In fact, if I want to show someone a picture of a friend I think I should be able to look them up in the addressbook, push a pictures button, and see all of that persons tagged photos in iphoto. That would be slick.

iChat should go multi-service. My friends are spread out between aol, msn, gchat etc. I use Adium currently.

That's all I can think of off the top of my head but it would be a good start.

The first thing that leaps to mind is Blu-ray disc support as well as USB3 support. Blu-ray is a big bag of hurt; here's hoping USB3 is just a coin purse of annoyance.

I'd also like some better interaction with applications. For instance, I want iTunes to launch and sync when I hook up my iPhone, sure, but does it have to insist on jumping to the front? Can't it just stay in the background? (Same goes for iPhoto.)

And, though not directly a OS X thing, I'd like iWeb to become a bit more robust on a lot of levels. Before that, though, I'd like it to update every page I change (across all sites, not just the one in the forefront) (sorry, it's hard to explain -- but it used to be that iWeb updated each page in your collection (I have a handful of web pages and they're not all under the same banner as it were); now, you have to go site-to-site to upload changes. This seems like a big step backward. And I'd love it if iWeb would just do its damn upload and not insist on continually bouncing the dock icon until I click back on the program and acknowledge it.

I'd like iCal to be able to print start and end times on the monthly view of the calendar. That shouldn't be too much to ask.

Should be able to find the 'G-Spot."

just re-read lazydays' original post; yeah, it's time for Address Book to get some better relational handling. Start with smart-fill when I'm typing a company name or address in so I don't need to enter all the information by hand again. Or, better yet, If I enter a new contact and then put a company name, and I already have a bunch of other entries, pre-fill in all the typical slots (address, phone, etc.) and highlight the ones that were added. Maybe a drop-down menu when you enter a company name? I dunno.

"Are you sure you want to restart your computer now?"

This one bugs the heck out of me. Why isn't this reminder prompt optional? I'm pretty sure it once was, way back when.

If you want to protect newbies or flakes, fine! But please let me turn this little safety item off! :villagers:

Restart? What's that? I think I'm okay with that reminder. It's saying to me "really? you want to restart and spend a couple minutes getting back to this point? Nah, you don't really want to do that, do you?"
