Naming Airport Extreme and Express - Ironhorse - 02-20-2010

I have a white flying saucer AE and a Airport Express base that i can't rename. I have them renamed in everything except the fan signal in the menu bar. Both say apple network with numbers and letters.

Thanks for any help

Dennis

That is the network name. It is one of the first config screens you see in the airport setup.

airport setup or airport utility?
In airport utility the names are correct.

I got it, was so simple and I feel so stupid. Guess I got in a hurry.

Airport Utility. Not the basestation name, the network name. 2 entirely different things.

Thanks Cris it was your response that triggered my actions to get it right.

Good post Iron; I think this is confusing to many people, and maybe this will help clear it up.

Like C(-)ris said, one is base station name, the other the network name. I have my network name hidden so that it has to be typed in exactly as I have it in order for it to even show as a possible wifi network. Then, the network is password protected.
