SEATTLE (AP) - DVD rental kiosk chain Redbox has agreed to wait 28 days after Warner Bros. releases new movies for sale before offering to rent them for $1 a night.

Supposedly Netflix has agreed to a similar deal. Basically, this means folks will be waiting another 28 days to try to rent a movie they're not going to buy anyway.

I see this as an opportunity for others to be the new redbox people.
I say just buy the disks retail and rent them.
Is there some law, agreement, or legal precedent saying you can't rent legally-purchased DVDs?

I heard that movie sucked. A lot.

I liked it; but it was unusual, and not appropriate for young kids.

I could see where many people didn't like it, or even hated it.

The studios also have HBO et al to keep happy. They too want their exclusive window of opportunity.

That's what RedBox was doing, and didn't want to anymore. Also, they caught heat from Warner and others for doing so. It's not always about "what's legal" when Hollywood wants you to stop doing something, and your pockets aren't as deep as theirs.

I disliked what they did to an otherwise enjoyable fantasy story. I strongly disliked that they decided to have Max run away and find the boat rather than use his imagination to transform his room. That to me was the crux of the entire (original) story.

However, I thought the effects, set, costumes, etc were great, and right on the money.

It made my 9 year old cry, and got to me too. So it was good as its own interpretation -- re-imagining, I guess -- but it sucked as a film version of "Where the Wild Things Are", so I don't care if they put it off as a rental by a few years. I won't be buying or renting it, or watching it when it comes on free TV.

I guess like most very short books made into full-length movies, the expansion and re-interpretation probably alienates most fans of the original.
