PSA: Nintendo Wii in stock @ Amazon for $200 shipped (no tax for most) - Carnos Jax - 03-03-2010

There's been a shortage of this for the past couple of months...

If you are looking for the Nintendo Wii, Amazon has them currently in stock for $200 (no tax, free shipping). If you are gonna buy from Amazon, you might want to get an extra Nunchuk and Wii Remote (so you can do two player games). If purchasing the extra remote, make sure you get the Wii Play w/Remote bundle (which gives you 9 extra games for only $10 more than purchasing the Remote by itself).

You can expect the cost to continue to go down and the inventory to be reduced in preparation for the upcoming Nintend WII 2 release. Assume Christmas 2010.

Rumors have it will have 1080i HDMI capability and perhaps Blu-Ray (but I doubt that part a lot)

That's not a deal. The regular price is $200. The price officially dropped last October.

Those places that are still selling it for $250 are ripping people off.

There are plenty of Wiis in stock all over the 'net. I just got one at Dell Home for my sister. Where have you been looking that makes you think there's a shortage?

...

As for updates, that's not happening. Nintendo has been very loudly declaring that they have no intention of changing/updating the system any time soon. The only thing they might change is the color. They're selling black consoles in Japan.

...

Edit: Oh, apparently there is a shortage due to exceptional seasonal demand and production-constraints.

It can't be much of a shortage, tho. I found a console for my sister the first place I looked. And they tossed in a gift card.

I know you changed your assessment of the shortage Doc, but would you mind telling me where you found one for your sister? What about other places that you think they may be available?

And FWIW, I had the impression (though I only found out last week) that these have been in short supply since the latter part of January.

Dell Home had them just a over a week ago. That's where I got one for my sister. 'First place that I tried.

Maybe this is just a bad week for online Wii-shopping. They seem to have them in-stock in most brick and mortar stores. My local Target has stacks of them filling the bottom-shelf of every display case in the Wii gaming aisle. BestBuy just had a huge in-store promo with a tower of Wii boxes at the door. GameStop had 5% off last week. (Enough to cover local tax.) Radio Shack and Walmart have been promoting the heck out of Wii console bundles in all of the local papers.

Good gosh, that hasn't been the case here (Little Rock, AR) since mid-January!

If you *do* get a Wii (or have one already), you should install the Homebrew Channel. Lots of fun stuff you can download for free.
