Flash banned from VA flights; iPhones welcome - RAMd®d - 03-04-2010

Virgin America has dumped Flash from its website because of the lack of iPhone support. Virgin's new website, which launched Monday, replaces Flash with HTML to give users the ability to check in via their iPhones in the future. Virgin plans on moving their new site to HTML 5, once it's cleared standards ratification at the World Wide Web Consortium.

Just heard that reported on MAC OS KEN podcast.
Today's episode is funny. Especially the speak and spell (not unlike Roger Ebert's recent Oprah, someone with whom he has dated, visit)

So Steve has become the driving force in setting standards on the internet?

I installed ClickToFlash about a month ago. It's amazing how much stuff is Flash. I went to Paul McCartney's website, and it's entirely done in Flash. That's right, all you get is a page of squares with Flash in the middle of each one.

Why don't they just make their own app? I find dedicated apps preferable to web pages, although you can get cluttered.

Doesn't it just make sense. I mean every smart phone can view html pages but not every phone can view flash. Apple's made too big of dent in the smart phone market to ignore the iPhone.

No reason they can't do both. Still a smart move to dump Flash, increasingly revealed as the power-stealing hog and evil crippled bastard of the world wide web.
