Help me help a poor Quicken 2005 user - john-o - 03-05-2010 I have a client who called me in a panic today, saying a bunch of transactions he'd entered had "disappeared". Seems he'd been entering EFT's and Scheduled transactions of some sort, and when he clicked on something [who knows what], everything but his checks disappeared (including deposits, if I recall correctly). Anyway, spent some time on the phone trying to help him find the most recent backup, with no joy there either. Then he got confused as to which was his original data file, but when he finally figured it out and opened it... vóilá, all the information was there again... Needless to say, he's still panic-stricken about this happening again, and wanted to know what he should do. Well, I'm not a Quicken user, so know little about it, but I told him that the direction Intuit has taken with the program hasn't been inspiring much hope in Mac users. He asked what else he should be doing/using, seeing as he doesn't have much faith in the version he's using now (2005)... I thought I had a copy of '07 around here somewhere, but I'm not finding it. I know there's been a lot of talk lately about what other programs people are switching to, but I don't recall if any of them can import old Quicken data. Anyone care to take a stab at a suggestion of where to turn for this guy? I'm pretty much at a loss!! Many TIA, as usual. I'll check back in the AM, as right now I'm beat. It's off to bed for this puppy! Later, John Re: Help me help a poor Quicken 2005 user - Doc - 03-05-2010 I use that software. It works fine. IMHO, there's no compelling reason to switch to another app unless you need online banking features. I can't tell what happened from your description. Next time, have him take a screen shot. Re: Help me help a poor Quicken 2005 user - michaelb - 03-05-2010 If I had to guess I would say he clicked on the top bar and sorted the transactions by check number. If you do that, only checks "appear" and everything that wasn't a check would be at the "top" above the checks, so invisible. He would have to drag the scroll bar up to the top to find them. |
