first post from my hp 311 hackintosh - mattkime - 04-11-2010 I'm upgrading to an hp 311 from my dell mini 10v. The benefits - Display - 1366x768 LED backlit vs. 1024 x 600pi (70% more screen) Graphics Processor - NVIDIA ION LE vs. Intel 945GSE Memory - 3GB max vs. 2GB max Video Out - HDMI & VGA vs. just VGA Battery - 6 cell vs. 3 cell (6 cell costs extra) I picked it up for $375 from Beach Camera through Amazon. Free Fedex ground shipping delivered from new jersey to new york overnight. The install has gone pretty smoothly although its been a battle to find the info. Strangely enough, most of the install process is EXACTLY the same as for the dell mini 10v but hell if you can find it stated anywhere. Keyboard and mouse weren't recognized in the installer but worked fine afterward, installed with a spare keyboard and mouse. There are still a number of rough edges to be smoothed out. I don't have audio although i know other people have it working. Wifi and bluetooth require some work. I think you need to buy a new internal wifi card but i'm unclear about the details. My initial impression is that this is well worth it. I expect to get the bugs worked out of the process so its easier for others. Re: first post from my hp 311 hackintosh - silvarios - 04-11-2010 Good luck. I lost my patience for hacking OS X installs when XpostFacto became obsolete. If I wanted to put so much work into configuration on a particular machine, I would use Linux, or maybe even NetBSD. Always had a soft spot for NetBSD, but never found a reason to deploy a NetBSD system. My loss really. This is clearly a labor of love. Enjoy the experience and don't let this or other naysayer get to you. HP makes a nice looking Netbook. I also like one of the Toshiba models -- NB305. Wonder if the Toshiba is OS X friendly. Nathan Re: first post from my hp 311 hackintosh - mrbigstuff - 04-11-2010 matt, i know :-) but, I'm not in OSX while typing this (just crappy XP, but it's zippy enough) the screen is great, no? my only issues is that other screen resolution settings don't come up as sharp Re: first post from my hp 311 hackintosh - Panopticon - 04-11-2010 good job, mattkime. Your geekfu is strong :hail: Hopefully you'll get all the kinks worked out & post again. Where will you post your procedure and links to files used? |
