OT (kinda): Replacing RAM on Dell Mini 10v - SKYLANE - 04-12-2010

I went to mydellmini.com to review how to replace the RAM on Dell Mini 10v using the video guides. I reviewed the video guides, amazing how difficult it is to get to the RAM compared to the Dell Mini 9, LOL... the job is certainly within my capability to do. For those that have done the RAM upgrade, did the machine go back together without any issues? For example, no appearance that the case had been cracked open, split lines all match up good? Any lessons learned on your part?

If I am going in that far to get to the RAM, is there anything else I should consider doing while in there. One thing I plan to do is see if there is BlueTooth installed. My BIOS says "BlueTooth [Enabled]", yet no BlueTooth shows up in 10.6.3 Preferences. If BT not there, not sure if I can think of benefit to install it.

I also have a 10v and did the upgrade shortly after receiving it. The machine went back without any issue. It is a bit daunting to tear it apart. I used a couple of videos on YouTube and watched them through before and during the upgrade and it helped alot compared to just using the Dell service manual.

I also installed a BT module but you don't have to do now if you don't have one. You can do that upgrade later and it is not as invasive as the RAM upgrade. I use a BT mouse, so I wanted to install it and not have to use a USB port for a BT USB adapter but I think it comes down to personal preference.

Good luck!

get your bluetooth on ebay. i should find a seller.

yeah, it goes back together perfectly fine. my main advice is to make sure you have a screw driver that fits the screw heads particularly well. i was a bit clumsy and stripped a couple of screws a little bit.

Instead of a Bluetooth mouse, I recommend the Logitech M305 wireless mouse. I got one on sale two weeks ago from Target for $26. That sale is over. I don't think it uses the battery of the computer. I bought a second one to replace a Apple Mighty Mouse (Bluetooth) which was forever dropping the signal from my MacMini.

In contrast to Bluetooth, with this mouse there is no finding and connecting process. Also the piece that plugs into the USB port is tiny.
