Need some advice regarding a graduation/ceremony issue - PeterB - 04-14-2010

Hi everyone,

I'll try to explain this in a way that makes sense. There's a student organization at my institution for which I'm the advisor, and I'd like for those students who are graduating and who were in leadership positions for this organization to be able to wear something at graduation. We have stoles for fraternities and sororities, and "honor cords" for honor societies, but is there anything that these guys and gals could wear?

P.S. ... I'm thinking maybe a custom lapel pin, but I'd have to find a place that would do it for a reasonable price, with limited quantities...

Traditionally, if it's not officially sanctioned by the school it's taped onto the cap.

PeterB- I can help with the lapel pins. Smile Minimum is usually 100, but some places will do as little as 50. I rep a pin line so the info below is based on the company I work with.

If you go with a die struck brass, a 1"x1" will run you about $4-5 each. This includes a custom shape and up to 6 colors. No set ups or die charges.

I have done pin programs similar to this for other schools (High Schools and Colleges) and they go very well. If it becomes an ongoing program, the students coming up through the group look forward to "earning" their pins.

A faculty member used these folks for pins for College Bowl grads. I think he just decided on a pin type and had "College Bowl" put on it. They are apparently have a reasonable charge for the pins and shipping.

IF you are going to do pins, then you HAVE to support dmann. That's the official forum policy!

How about a distinctive flower on their gowns?

Graduates of the University of Texas Law School don't wear caps and gowns. Instead, they wear sunflowers on their lapels, a tradition that dates to the 1880s. When the university insisted that law school graduates had to wear distinctive apparel to mark their status, the puckish law students said they'd all wear sunflowers from a field behind the school.

Peter- Barring animatronic dancing hamsters on their mortarboards..... The theme of the organization will best define the symbol that they share. For example, if the organization is the University Hookers & Booze Society, pasties, a thong, and a bottle of Jack Daniels is about right.
